An employee of the Office of the Auditor General has been arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly using a forged academic certificate to fraudulently secure employment.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Dorothy Jepkoech Kiptoo forged a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
Investigators revealed that she used the certificate to gain employment at the Auditor General’s office.
Upon completion of investigations, the EACC forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved multiple charges.
Kiptoo faces counts of fraudulent acquisition of public property, forgery, and uttering a false document.
According to the charge sheet, she fraudulently acquired Kes. 8,698,662.91, paid to her in salaries by the Auditor General’s office over the course of her employment.
Kiptoo was booked at the Integrity Centre Police Station before being presented in court, where she denied all charges.
Principal Magistrate granted her release on a cash bail of Kes. 100,000 or an alternative bond of Kes. 500,000.
