The Australian government has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens of a heightened risk of terrorism in Kenya. Citing credible threats, the advisory urges Australians to exercise a high degree of caution while in the country.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, terror attacks could occur without warning and are likely to target locations frequented by foreigners and tourists. These include shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, transport hubs, and places of worship.

“Australians should remain vigilant in public spaces and stay alert to their surroundings at all times,” the advisory stated.

The government also identified specific regions; Garissa, Mandera, and Marsabit, as particularly dangerous due to ongoing security concerns. Citizens have been advised not to travel to these areas under any circumstances.

While Kenyan authorities continue to maintain heightened security, the Australian government emphasized the importance of personal safety and recommended that travelers monitor local news, follow official guidance, and register with the Smartraveller website.
