Cicely a former fashion model became known for playing strong African American characters for seven decades now. The actress has won three Emmys a SAG award, a Tony and an honorary academy award.
Cicely is known for acting in films like cherish the day ,sounder ,autobiography of miss jane Pittman .
she died at the age of 96 years her manager said in a statement she died peacefully in her sleep and as of now there is no cause of death given .
Larry Thompson who is her manager said “I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years and each year was a privilege and a blessing. Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal life .today she placed the last ornament a star, on top of the tree.
Tyson was born in Harlem and she started out as a model for Ebony magazine. In 1956 she got her first film role in a movie called B-movie Carib Gold .in 1963 she got featured in her first TV drama called side/west side.
In 1972 Tyson got the role that brought her fame .she played Rebecca Morgan in the film Sounder which was a film that talked about a black sharecroppers trying to survive depression. Where she then got an Oscar nomination for the best actress .she then won two Emmys for acting as a 110 year old former slave in the film autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.
