Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) has planted more than 1,000 tree seedlings in Shella, Lamu County to support the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation National Tree Planting Campaign to reinforce the Government of Kenya campaign to plant 15 billion trees.
During the exercise, the Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation Dr. Paul K. Ronoh officially launched the Ministry’s National Tree Planting Campaign in Lamu County.
As part of their commitment to the initiative, AWWDA will also plant another 20,000 tree seedlings in Karimenu II Dam on Friday 28th April 2023, as it ramps up efforts to improve the environment and support the government’s tree planting initiative.
The Agency also plans to plant over 200,000 tree seedlings in the Aberdares water catchment which is a vital source of water.
“Join us on the 28th April 2023 for tree planting in Karimenu II Dam, Gatundu North. Family and friends are also invited to participate, with lots of fun activities lined up,” AWWDA said in a statement.
