The Kenya National Highways Authority through its Axle Load unit has put drivers on notice for breaking the laws in regards to overloading.

Assistant Director in charge of Axle Load enforcement and Weighbridge Michael Ngala said the unfortunate incident of a child who was run over by a truck, would have been avoided if the driver did not break the law in the first place.

“We are issuing a stern warning to all these transporters who think they can break the law and mobilize outrage against our enforcement units. Kindly follow the guidelines on load limits or stay away from the road.” Ngala said.

Eng. Ngala added that the unit will continue cracking down on overloaders in a bid to rid axle limit offenders from damaging roads and endangering the lives of road users.

Overloaded trucks, more so sand trucks have been in the spotlight for violating axle load limits, and frustrating efforts to maintain road infrastructure.

Drivers evading arrests are known to employ hideous methods of evading arrests by driving on estate roads, mobilizing goons against enforcement, and tampering with vehicle weight.

Eng. Ngala lamented local drivers’ laxity in observing axle load limits as opposed to trans national drivers, whom he says have complied with load limits.
