Azimio Demand Recall of the Finance Bill, Urges MPs To Reject It

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders have joined calls for the complete withdrawal of the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

The opposition, led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, downplayed the removal of several sections of the Finance Bill, arguing that some clauses are fundamentally unlawful.

The opposition has insisted that its MPs will remain in parliament to vote down the bill currently before the House.

Kalonzo, who was accompanied by Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugine Wamalwa during their visit to Mathare demolition victims, also condemned police brutality in dealing with anti-Finance Bill protestors.

He stated that the opposition will take legal action against Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei.

“As Azimio, we have pledged to take legal action against the Kenya Kwanza regime on behalf of all Kenyans whose businesses and livelihoods were devastated by the senseless and brutal conduct. We will seek prompt compensation for all affected parties,” he said.

Azimio has supported the protests, stating that the authorities should listen to Kenyans’ concerns.

At the same time, Kalonzo has commented on the police deployment to Haiti, claiming that the move is just intended to promote the interests of Haiti at the expense of Kenya.

Kalonzo believes that the police mission to Haiti is illegitimate and should not be carried out.
