Azimio Leaders Blame Runaway Corruption For Under-development

Mr Mun'garo said a change of leadership is what Kilifi people need in order to reap the fruits of devolution

Former Devolution Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Gideon Mung’aro has insisted that Kilifi County would have been a county of reference in terms of development were it not for a runaway corruption by Governor Amason Kingi’s administration.

Addressing an Azimio rally at Kanamai trading centre in Kilifi South Sub-county, Mr Mung’aro said the billions of funds pumped into the county from the national treasury would have transformed the lives of the people.

“It is sad that even with more than Sh80 billion pumped into the region, no tangible development the people can count on. We still have the very challenges that we had at the onset of devolution,” said Mr Mung’aro.

He was accompanied by Azimio leaders who included Senator Stewart Madzayo, Kilifi South MP Ken Chonga, currently Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi, her running mate Flora Chibule and a host of MCA aspirants.

Mr Mun’garo said a change of leadership is what Kilifi people need in order to reap the fruits of devolution and start a new lease of life.

“We don’t have proper services in our health facilities because funds meant to improve them were siphoned by greedy officers as the governor watched. Most of the roads are in dilapidated situations, some shoddily done so that corrupt officers would siphon public money for their own greediness. We shall make sure that this comes to an end once you give me the chance to serve you in August, he told the residents.

Mr Chonga also poked holes in governor Kingi over his leadership style where projects were over-priced at the expense of the locals.

“I recently bought three acres of land at a cost of Sh13 million in Mtomondoni to construct a school. Unfortunately, it is the same acreage of land in Mtwapa that the county government bought at a cost of more than Sh300 million. What can you call this if it is not theft of public funds,” said Mr Chonga.

He told the people of Kilifi South to desist from supporting the Pamoja African Alliance(PAA) party he said is a continuation of the governor Amason Kingi’s administration.

“After he swept clean our economy and rendered the county unable to give services, he decided to leave not a legacy of development but a political party called PAA. Don’t buy into this idea because it will be the worst mistake one can do,” he said.

Senator Madzayo said that it was unfortunate that even after receiving more than Sh80 billion in allocation since 2013, there was nothing to show as development because of corruption.

“I have fought for more allocation to Kilifi County because of its numerous challenges. But the sadness of it is that the money has literally ended in individual pockets instead of benefiting the Kilifi masses. The only person who can bring the much-desired change is Mr Mung’aro. Let’s all support him in this journey of transforming Kilifi in terms of development and social well-being,” he said.

Mr Saburi told the residents of Kikambala and Mtepeni generally to vote for Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, saying that the region is set to benefit immensely from his leadership.

“As we speak now, one leg of Mr Odinga is already in the State House. So it is up to you as Kilifi South residents to affirm this by voting for Mr Odinga in August,” said Mr Saburi.
