Azimio MP Faces Imminent Arrest Over Shopping Debt

The deputy registrar of the High Court directed Lamu County police stations to arrest the MP for failing to pay his debt.

On Friday, May 12, Lamu Law courts issued a warrant of arrest against Lamu West Member of Parliament Stanley Muthama for an unpaid debt of Ksh2.2 million.

The deputy registrar of the High Court directed Lamu County police stations to arrest the MP for failing to pay his debt.

Police officers stationed at Parliament were also asked to assist in his arrest.

The debt was incurred following the supply of hardware goods to a company owned by the lawmaker, according to court documents.

According to reports, the displeased business entity supplied the goods to the MP, who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket, between 2014 and 2015.

“Whereas the sum remains unpaid in respect of the said decree, these orders are to command you to arrest the said Mr. Muthama and, unless they shall pay to you the sum of Kshs2,277,469 together with executing officer’s fees, if any, to bring the said judgment-debtor before the court with all convenient speed,” read part of the warrant.
