Two Kilifi legislators have clashed over the ongoing Azimio protests currently going on in different parts of the country.
Rabai MP Kenga Mupe and his Kaloleni counterpart Paul Katana differed on the call for a handshake between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to sit down for a dialogue to end the stalemate that has led to the economic crush down.
While Mr Katana pushed for the two leaders to sit for a dialogue, Mr Mupe asked the President to stay away from Odinga whom he said was responsible for the current political standoff because of his calls for protests.
Mr Mupe who was speaking at Shika Adabu in Rabai after issuing bursaries said it was Mr Odinga’ s habit of disputing elections and then start agitation for handshakes through the back door.
“Every regime after election, Mr Odinga starts. From President Moi, Kibaki, Uhuru, he brogitu5the same blackmail antics and was absorbed into those governments. It is a tricky he knows too well. But I want to tell the President to ignore him and continue to work for the people,” he said.
The Rabai MP said the President was busy at the moment to grow our economy and there was no time for petty politics as orchestrated by Mr Odinga.
“The economy is on its knees. The President is busy trying to rebuild it, so we don’t have time for handshakes and other political blackmail. I can tell Mr Odinga that there will be no handshake,” said Mr Mupe.
But while addressing Kaloleni residents at St Lukes hospital after a tour of the facility, Mr Katana headed calls for the two leaders to sit down and have a dialogue, saying that the economy will not go up in the current scenario.
“Life has become extremely difficult. The hopes of Kenyans are fading because of the political standoff currently witnessed in the country. I want to urge my party leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto to sit down and have a dialogue to end this problem,” he said.
The Kaloleni lawmaker said that the two have known each other for long, having worked together and that there was no way the two can’t meet to chat way ahead for this country.
“We have heard from people close to the President that he will not sit down with Raila for a handshake. Please let allow these two leaders to sit down for a dialogue as that is the only solution to end the current standoff,” he said.
