The panel tasked with identifying ODM leader Raila Odinga’s running mate has given parties in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance 24 hours to submit their nominees amid heated debate.
The panel which is chaired by former Kwanza MP Noah Wekesa asked the 26 Azimio political parties on Thursday to forward the names to the team.
“The Committee requests any constituent party members of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance that wishes to nominate any person for consideration as a candidate for the position of Deputy President of the coalition to submit the name of such person by close of business tomorrow, Thursday, April 5, 2022,” Wekesa said.
However, the committee stated that it will only consider nominations from coalition parties.
“The Committee shall only consider candidates who are members of the constituent party members of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance,” added Wekesa.
The panel is set to interview several candidates interested in deputizing the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
However, the Committee stated that only candidates who wish to appear and make presentations before the seven-member panel will be permitted to do so.
Those scheduled to be interviewed include NARC Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, Narc Party Leader Charity Ngilu, former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth, Governors Ali Hassan Joho of Mombasa, Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru, Alfred Mutua of Machakos, and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.
It still remains unclear if Kalonzo Musyoka will face the panel.
