Babu Owino Condoles the Family of Rex Who Was Shot Dead During Protests

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Friday joined mourners and the family of Rex Kanyike Masai, who was shot dead by a rogue police officer during Thursday’s protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Babu Owino visited the family of the late Rex at the City Mortuary before the postmortem.

“I am pained to the deepest depths of my heart to see parents in anguish following this unspeakable tragedy. To die at the prime of one’s life, fighting for a future that has been brutally snatched away by the Oppressor, is a terrible price to pay. We will make sure your sacrifice is not in vain Friend. Go well and pass our regards to our founding fathers, let them know the struggle lives on!” He said.

The Legislator also gave Ksh 200,000 to Rex’s parents to help with funeral arrangements.

“I call upon Kenyans to stand with the family of this fallen hero at this difficult time through their paybill and give whatever little they can,” he added.

Rex died on Thursday after he was allegedly shot by an unidentified police officer.

He was among the many protesters who had taken to the streets to reject the Finance Bill 2024. The young man was reportedly shot at dusk.

In response to the tragic news, many Kenyans expressed condolences and called for justice on social media for the young man who lost his life while exercising his constitutional right.
