Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stirred political waters after hinting at a possible joint presidential bid with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a breakfast show on Hot 96, Babu said pressure from his supporters and his extensive leadership experience had prompted him to consider a stab at the presidency.
Babu noted that his leadership journey, which began during his time as a student leader at the University of Nairobi, has equipped him with the experience needed to vie for the presidency.
”It depends on how we decide with my brother, Ndindi. He is a performer, and if today we decide that we are going for the presidency, we will win very early in the morning without even paying agents,” Babu stated.
He praised Ndindi Nyoro, recently ousted as chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, as a “performer” and a strong potential running mate.
Drawing inspiration from young global leaders such as Burkina Faso’s Ibrahim Traore, Babu said it was time Kenya embraced youthful leadership.
He also criticized President William Ruto for failing to deliver on promises made during the 2022 campaign.
”I am genuinely disappointed because this is the president who ought to have been the best President of Kenya, having been raised from a very humble background,” Babu stated.
Babu also hinted at forming a broader coalition, naming leaders such as Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Eugene Wamalwa, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya as possible allies.
