Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has fired a bold warning to the government following his admission to the bar, declaring his entry into the legal fraternity as a strategic escalation in his ongoing fight for justice and social reform.

Owino was among 609 advocates formally admitted to the bar on Friday, a milestone he described as not just personal, but deeply political and purposeful. In a defiant statement, the outspoken legislator tied his legal journey to his roots in Kisumu’s Nyalenda slums, where early encounters with police brutality ignited his resolve to pursue justice.

“Growing up in the slums of Nyalenda, I noticed with deep concern the constant harassment and humiliation of ordinary Kenyans in the brutal hands of law enforcement agencies,” Owino said. He cited the repeated arrest and abuse of his mother over illicit brew sales as a defining moment that exposed the injustices faced by marginalized communities.

Known for his combative style in Parliament, Owino made it clear that his law degree is not a badge of honor, but a weapon in his continued battle for the rights of the downtrodden. “This achievement is not about personal grandiosity. It is about sharpening the tools of service,” he said. “The law is now a new battlefield.”

In a direct message to the government, the MP promised intensified legal activism, stating, “The Government should brace itself for more lethal arguments in defense of Kenyans—both in Parliament and now in court.”

Owino pledged to channel his legal expertise toward pressing national issues, including lowering the cost of living, job creation, and systemic accountability. He closed his address with a dramatic vow of commitment: “The revolution continues—now with a gown and a gavel. So, help me, God.”
