Baby Mama in Muthama Paternity Saga Accused of Forging Birth Certificate

A woman at the center of a high-profile paternity and property dispute involving former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has been charged with forgery before a Milimani court.

Nina Maria Wanjiku appeared before Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi on Friday where she was accused of presenting a forged birth certificate at the Nairobi Immigration Office on May 21, 1998.

The document, bearing certificate number 3008**, was allegedly issued by the Civil Registrar of Births in Thika.

According to the prosecution, Wanjiku knowingly submitted the falsified document in a bid to mislead immigration officials.

She is also facing an additional charge of uttering a false document under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes the presentation of fraudulent documents with the intent to deceive.

Wanjiku, who took to the stand, claimed the case is being used as a weapon against her in an ongoing matrimonial property dispute currently before the High Court.

She expressed frustration with the police, saying she has been compelled to record statements multiple times in Nairobi despite residing in Mtwapa, Mombasa, over 800 kilometers away.

“The complainant is using the justice system to frustrate me,” she told the court, adding that the repeated summons have strained her finances and disrupted her life.

She further alleged that she was forcibly taken to Nairobi alongside her seven-year-old grandson during her arrest.

Wanjiku was released on a cash bail of KSh 50,000 and required to provide two contact persons. The court set August 4, 2025, as the date for pretrial directions.

Johnson Muthama is listed as the first prosecution witness in the case.
