Baringo Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Violent Robbery and Death Threats

A Baringo court has sentenced a man to life in prison after finding him guilty of robbery with violence and issuing death threats to his victim.

Peter Natesero Lengusu was convicted over an incident on 10 August 2024 at Kampi Turkana village in Marigat Location, Baringo South Sub-County.

The court heard that Lengusu, in the company of accomplices still at large, accosted the victim, robbed him of his mobile phone, and later assaulted him.

Lengusu evaded arrest for some time before members of the public apprehended him and alerted the police.

In delivering judgment, Kabarnet Senior Principal Magistrate Caroline Ateya cited the severity of the offence, the accused’s lack of remorse, and the continuing threat he posed.

The court noted that Lengusu had threatened to kill the victim and others involved in his arrest, even telling them to “start digging their graves before he arrives from prison.”

Terming these remarks as evidence of ongoing danger, the magistrate imposed the maximum penalty under the law, life imprisonment.

Police have confirmed that efforts to trace Lengusu’s accomplices are ongoing.
