Battle for AU post: Raila arrives in Addis Ababa for debate rehearsals

    The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga is currently participating in a debate rehearsal, alongside other candidates for the African Union Commission Chairperson.

    The candidate arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday evening ahead of Mjadala Afrika, which translates to “African Debate” in Swahili.

    The Africa Leadership Debate or Mjadala Afrika Leadership debate will start from 7pm to 9pm East Africa Time.

    The main purpose of Mjadala Afrika is to provide a platform for candidates contesting the position of African Union Commission Chairperson to engage in substantial discussions about their visions, priorities, and ideas on various policy issues aimed at realizing Agenda 2063.

    Today, Hon. Odinga is dedicating much of his time to the rehearsals as part of his preparation for this important event.

    He is pleased to interact with candidates Mahmoud Ali Youssouf (Djibouti) and Richard Randriamandrato (Madagascar), who are his worthy competitors in this race.

    Hon. Odinga is in high spirits and looks forward to the debate tomorrow, where he aims to share and connect with Africa on his dynamic and progressive vision and priorities.

    His vision aligns with the goals of Agenda 2063, promoting a continent that is more connected, united, peaceful, and prosperous.

    As a lifelong Pan-Africanist, he will present his 10-point plan, which identifies priority areas that he believes will accelerate Africa’s progress towards achieving the continent’s long-term objectives.

    His agenda emphasizes Economic Transformation; Increasing intra-African Trade; Infrastructure Development; Financial lndependence for the African Union, Gender Equity and Equality; Agricultural transformation; Climate Action; Harnessing Youth Potential; Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence; Continental Integration, and Peace and Security across the continent.

    The debate will be televised from the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on December 13th, 2024, from 1900 to 2100 HRS East Africa Time (EAT) or 1600 to 1800 HRS GMT.
