Bayern Munich appear to be closing in on the signing of Liverpool forward Luis Díaz, in what would be one of the most high-profile moves of the summer.
After a string of failed pursuits—including rebuffed bids for Nico Williams and Florian Wirtz—Bayern now seem set to land their man, with Liverpool reportedly softening their stance under pressure.
Talks had previously stalled after Bayern’s initial offer of around £58.6 million was rejected, with Liverpool insisting the Colombian winger was not for sale.
However, in recent days, Díaz has reportedly made clear his desire to leave Anfield, prompting the Merseyside club to engage in “advanced talks” over a deal.
Multiple outlets now report the fee is nearing £69 million, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting it could be closer to £65.5 million.
Díaz was absent from Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan, a decision confirmed by new manager Arne Slot, yet he remains with the squad for their tour of Japan.
While not officially sidelined, his omission from the matchday squad is being widely interpreted as a precaution amid ongoing negotiations.
Liverpool signed Díaz from Porto in January 2022 for £37 million, with potential add-ons pushing that figure to £50 million. With only two years left on his contract and no willingness to extend, Liverpool face a now-or-never moment to recoup a profit on their investment.
Barcelona had also expressed interest earlier this summer and were considered the forward’s preferred destination. But their financial difficulties, coupled with a late pivot toward a short-term Marcus Rashford loan, saw that path closed. Club president Joan Laporta cited Liverpool’s inflexibility as a barrier, though thanked Díaz for his interest in joining.
Now it appears Bayern have succeeded where others failed, edging closer to a marquee signing that could reshape their front line.
