Bayern Munich Agree £65.5 Million Deal to Sign Liverpool Winger Luis Diaz

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in a deal worth £65.5 million ($88 million), according to multiple reports on Sunday, marking a major move in the summer transfer window. The Colombian international is set to leave the Premier League champions after two and a half successful years at Anfield.

The Bundesliga giants had their initial £59 million bid rejected by Liverpool last week but returned with an improved offer that appears to have met the Merseyside club’s valuation. Diaz has reportedly been granted permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia in order to undergo a medical in Munich.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 and quickly became an integral part of the squad. He played a key role in Liverpool’s trophy-laden campaigns, helping the club to secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles. Last season, Diaz made 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals as Liverpool clinched their first league title in five years under new manager Arne Slot.

Speculation surrounding Diaz’s future intensified over the weekend after he was left out of Liverpool’s 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in a pre-season friendly in Hong Kong on Saturday. When asked about the decision, Slot said: “In Lucho’s (Diaz’s) situation, there’s a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that. He’s training really well with us but we have decided for now not to play him yet. I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. I cannot comment much more about that.”

For Bayern, Diaz’s arrival offers a timely reinforcement following a major injury setback to star forward Jamal Musiala. The German international was recently ruled out for a “long period” after sustaining a broken leg and a dislocated ankle during the Club World Cup earlier this month. Diaz is expected to bring both creativity and goal threat to the flanks as Bayern look to reclaim their Bundesliga crown and compete for European honors under new manager Vincent Kompany.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been active in reshaping their squad this summer. The Reds have bolstered their attack with high-profile signings including Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The club has also strengthened defensively, bringing in Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, while Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili joined from Valencia.

Liverpool are also rumored to be weighing a move for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who is valued at £150 million, as they seek to further sharpen their frontline in the wake of Diaz’s departure.

Diaz’s move to Bayern Munich now awaits finalization pending the results of his medical, but barring any last-minute complications, the Colombian winger is expected to be unveiled as Bayern’s latest marquee signing within the coming days.
