Bayern Munich Win Race for Luis Díaz After Liverpool Finally Budge

Bayern Munich have reportedly secured a blockbuster deal to sign Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool, ending weeks of tense negotiations between the two European giants.

After a summer of frustration in the transfer market—marked by rejections from Nico Williams and setbacks in their pursuit of Nick Woltemade and Florian Wirtz—Vincent Kompany’s side has finally landed a marquee name.

Initial talks for Díaz seemed dead in the water when Liverpool rejected a £58.6 million ($78.8 million) bid. The Reds had insisted the 28-year-old wasn’t for sale. But pressure mounted behind the scenes as Díaz, reportedly eager to leave, made his stance clear. Liverpool’s resistance waned.

According to The Athletic, an agreement has now been reached between the two clubs, with the transfer expected to be announced as early as Monday. The deal is rumored to be worth between £65–£69 million, giving Liverpool a healthy profit on a player they signed from Porto in 2022 for an initial £37 million.

Díaz’s omission from Liverpool’s friendly against AC Milan on Saturday raised eyebrows and only fueled speculation. While he did travel with the team to Tokyo for a match against Yokohama F. Marinos, reports indicate he’s been given permission to step away from camp and finalize personal terms with Bayern.

With two years left on his contract and no extension in sight, Liverpool may have seen this as their last realistic chance to cash in on a player whose form has fluctuated in recent months.

Barcelona had previously shown interest, but their financial woes forced them to pivot to a cheaper loan option in Marcus Rashford. That opened the door for Bayern to swoop—and they did.

For Kompany, this could be a defining signing in his first summer at the helm. For Liverpool, it’s a reluctant farewell.
