Belgian’s Ksh 650M Gifts To Kenyan Girlfriends

A controversial Belgian national has deposited more than Sh650 million to at least three Kenyan girlfriends and their families within the last three years.

Detectives suspect the unusual generosity is part of a sophisticated money-laundering conspiracy that is yet to be uncovered.

Associates of the Belgian, Merc De Mesel, described him in court documents as a kind man who would pour millions on anyone.

Jane Wangui Kago, Serah Wambui Kamanda, Tebby Wambuku Kago, and Timothy Waigwa were identified as the five people.

In August of last year, De Mesel delivered a Sh102 million present to his girlfriend, Felesta Njoroge, 22, a Nairobi Technical Training Institute student.

The ARA is back in court, this time trying to freeze another account linked to De Mesel.

This time, the cash were sent to Timothy Waigwa Maina, a Kirinyaga University student. According to police, he is 22 years old.

De Mesel gave Timothy Sh47 million as a “gift” to help him establish a business.

Timothy is the cousin of Serah Wambui, another of De Mesel’s girlfriends.

De Mesel has decried harassment from the government, saying he was being targetted and wrongfully investigated.
