Ben Stokes has affirmed he “absolutely” wants to remain England’s captain despite a decisive Ashes series loss in Australia, where his side was defeated within just three Tests.
The loss in Adelaide, which gave Australia an insurmountable 3-0 lead, extends England’s winless streak in the country to 18 matches and marks 14 years without an away Ashes series victory.
This tour was seen as the culmination of the leadership era for Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, who took charge after England’s 4-0 defeat in Australia four years ago.
Asked directly if the defeat would make him question his commitment to the role, Stokes replied unequivocally: “Nope.”
