Beware of Job Scammers — Police Warn Recruits

Alice Otwala, Vice Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), has warned potential recruits to the Police Service not to fall victim to scammers.

Dr. Otwala stated that the next recruitment will be based on merit and advised the public not to be duped by scammers posing as recruiting brokers.

“As a Commission, we would want to warn the public against paying bribes to win recruitment to the National Police Service,” she added. “We also advise applicants to report to authorities anybody requesting money from them.”

Otwala made the statements during a meeting with teenagers in Homa Bay County on Monday, ahead of a recruiting exercise set for March 24.

She stated that the Commission outsourced the task of carrying out the exercise to the Inspector General of Police (IG), who has already advertised the available slots.

According to the Vice Chairperson, they have engaged adolescents in many counties in preparation for the recruitment. “We are preparing them for what it takes to be a police officer, the mandate, and the recruitment standards,” she added.

In addition to the required academic credentials for each cadre, the Commissioner said that one must be a Kenyan citizen with an Identification Card (ID) and a Certificate of Good Conduct, among other conditions.
