Billionaire Kibunga Kimani Lifts Centum Stake to 11.06% in Major Market Signal

By Michelle Ndaga

Kenyan billionaire investor John Kibunga Kimani has raised his stake in Centum Investment Company Plc to 11.06 percent, further cementing his position as one of the top individual shareholders in the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed investment firm.

Regulatory filings show that Dr. Kimani increased his holdings to 73.6 million shares in August 2025, up from 51.5 million shares previously. At Monday’s closing price, his stake was valued at approximately KSh 1.06 billion, underscoring his deepening bet on the firm’s turnaround prospects.

The move comes as Centum continues efforts to unlock shareholder value through a series of portfolio realignments, including divestments from underperforming assets and a renewed focus on private equity, real estate, and marketable securities.
