Bishop David Oginde has been sworn in as the new Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
He was sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court in Nairobi on Tuesday, May 9.
In his acceptance speech, Oginde vowed to fight corruption, which he referred to as the country’s worst enemy. He promised to build on the work of his predecessors by collaborating with justice sector actors to promote ethics, integrity, and good governance.
He also promised to step up anti-corruption efforts and form strategic alliances to address corruption’s root causes.
“In order to realize the proposed measures, we will be seeking support in the following areas: the strengthening of the legal framework for effective fight against corruption and recovery of corruptly acquired assets,” he added.
Oginde, who holds a PhD in Organisational Leadership from Regent University in the United States, was the presiding Bishop of Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) from 2010 to 2020.
He was also the Chancellor of Pan Africa University from 2011 to 2021, and he taught at Daystar University.
He succeeds Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, who retired on January 17, 2023, after serving for six years. Oginde was appointed after the president nominated him for the position.
In addition, Koome administered oaths of office to a commission formed to investigate the Shakohola tragedy, a task force formed to review the legal and regulatory frameworks governing religious organisations in Kenya, and two members of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.
