Blow to Gachagua as Juja MP George Koimburi ditches DCP, accuses him of betrayal

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has officially ditched Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and pitched camp with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Koimburi said his decision was driven by what he termed “conmanship” and internal betrayal within the DCP leadership, accusing the party of allowing local political rivals to undermine him in his own constituency.

“I was Gachagua’s diehard supporter. I have even gone to the cell because of him. I respected him deeply,” Koimburi said.

“But the moment he received money to start fighting me through my opponent in Juja, I lost faith in him,” he added.

The outspoken MP issued a stern warning to politicians considering joining DCP, describing the party as unsafe for political growth.

“For those seeking to join DCP, I warn you today: tread carefully. The pit you are throwing yourself into is very deep,” he said.

Following his move to Kenya Kwanza, Koimburi said he will now directly engage the State House to push for the completion of stalled development projects in Juja constituency.

“I will now go to State House and lobby for completion of projects that have stalled in Juja,” he said.

“Those in the budget such as roads, electricity and other infrastructure, will be completed under President Ruto’s leadership,” he revealed.

He cited key roads, including Witeithie–Maraba and Kimbo–Matangi, as among projects he expects the government to prioritise.

Koimburi, who is seeking re-election for a second term, is expected to face stiff competition from Aloise Kinyanjui, brother to former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and Godfrey Mucheke, the current Majority Leader of the Kiambu County Assembly.

Kinyanjui has already aligned himself with Gachagua’s DCP and has been actively campaigning alongside the party leader.

On Sunday, January 11, 2026, Kinyanjui was seen in Gatundu in the company of Gachagua, where he publicly declared his loyalty to the DCP leader. The duo later toured the Kimbo area in Juja, where Kinyanjui formally announced his defection to the party.
