Sports Kenya has written to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to inform them that the Nyayo National Stadium will be unavailable for their scheduled rally on August 6.

According to the letter, beginning August 5, peace concerts will be held in Nyayo Stadium.

Before the elections on August 9, rumors circulated that the Azimio La Umoja alliance and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance planned to hold their final rallies at the same location.

Both camps had planned to hold their final major rallies on August 6.

Azimio secretary general Junet Mohamed said in a statement on Tuesday that the coalition’s main rally will be held at Nyayo Stadium.

“As the country approaches the general election in 20 days, the Azimio team wishes to thank all Kenyans of goodwill who have turned up in their millions all over the country at meetings, rallies and in person to join in this historic journey to a fair, just, prosperous and inclusive nation,” the statement reads.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance had also stated that their final rally would be held at the Nyayo national stadium.

Campaigning will conclude on August 6 in preparation for the general elections on August 9. Candidates are not allowed to campaign or hold rallies two days before the election.

Mega rallies are held by candidates, most often presidential candidates, to rally Kenyans in their support.
