It was a happy weekend for the pupils of Kizurini special school in Kaloleni, Kilifi County when they received donations from well-wishers to help them continue with their learning unperturbed. – By Ramadhan Kambi.
The donations that included mattresses, food, masks, soap among other amenities were donated to the pupils by BMW Owners Club in an event that was witnessed by Kilifi County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education and ICT Rachel Musyoki and other senior county officials.
A team of BMW owners drawn from Nairobi and Mombasa drove to the school in a convoy of BMW vehicles to offer support to the children with special needs who are learning and sheltered at the school.
Speaking during the event, Ms Musyoki said the county will continue to support any ideas that will make the lives of the special needs children good to enable them learn without hindrances.
She thanked the organization for coming to the aid of the pupils and asked for more donour funding to help them realise their dreams.
“As county we built a modern ECD classrooms in this school because our role is to make sure that children in the county get a solid foundation for their education.
But when we have friends who can support our special needs children like what you have done today, then we shall be filling the gap that has existed and affected many of these children,” she said.
Ms Muysoki urged parents not to hide children with disabilities saying it is a mistake to hide them because they are human beings like others.
“Disability is not inability. Parents should not hide their children with disability because that is inhuman and it is also to infringe on the rights of those children. I want to thank BMW Owners Club for assisting these children and to make sure that they live normal amid the challenges,” she said.
The head of events at BMW Owners Club of Kenya Dan Okondo said they were in Kizurini special school as part of their CSR program.
“Every year, we drive to every part of the country and we at times combine the drives with a charity events. This time, Kizurini school dominated our coast drive as an institution that we were going to visit. We contacted the officials here and they highlighted their challenges,” said Mr Okondo.
“What we have brought today here include mattresses, non-perishable food like rice, flour, tea, sugar masks and other foodstuffs,” he added.
He said that their organization will continue to follow up on the issues of the school and will be retuning in future to continue with their assistance.
Kizurini primary school principal Prisca Munga thanked the club and asked for more donours to come to the aid of the pupils because they still face a number of challenges.
“We have been having challenges and we thank for those who have decided to come to offer assistance. Kizurini special school has a challenge like what you have seen. Your support is welcome and in future, kindly come again,” she said.
