The observational film, a six-year labor of love directed by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo, chronicles the journey of Kyangulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, as he challenged President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership.
The documentary, now under the National Geographic, delves into the Ugandan singer-turned-politician’s use of music as a tool for activism, as well as his role as an Independent Member of Parliament defending the rights of the ghetto people.
In a post on X, IDA expressed their congratulations, stating: “Congratulations to ‘Bobi Wine: The People’s President,’ winner for Best Feature Documentary at the 39TH IDA Documentary Awards.”
During the virtual ceremony held on Tuesday, December 12, Bwayo extended gratitude to those integral in crafting the film.
“Thank you for this incredible honor and news. Bobi Wine, the People’s President has been a labor of love, 6 years in the making; this recognition is a blessing and testament to those fighting for freedom, justice and democracy,” he said.
The IDA Documentary Awards, honor outstanding achievements in the documentary genre every year, recognizing excellence from both emerging and established documentarians worldwide.
