Kileleshwa: Gunman’s Pistol Jams During Robbery

The accused allegedly pulled out a handmade gun and demanded that the minor give his phone and anything else he had to his pillion passenger.

A boda boda rider has been charged with attempted robbery with violence after his improvised gun jammed while allegedly attempting to rob a pedestrian.

According to reports, Erick Malesi Musungu attempted to rob a 16-year-old while holding him at gunpoint along Laikipia Road in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, on June 12, but was foiled by the young man.

Mr. Musungu is now facing two additional charges of possessing an imitation of a firearm and unlawful possession of live ammunition after allegedly being discovered in possession of the improvised pistol and one round of ammunition.

According to information, the child and a companion were walking along the road on the relevant day when they were approached by the accused, who was riding a motorcycle.

The accused allegedly pulled out a handmade gun and demanded that the minor give his phone and anything else he had to his pillion passenger. The young person allegedly disobeyed the directions and confronted the suspect, whose accomplice escaped on foot after the suspect collapsed with the bike.

Before police intervened, members of the crowd joined the youngster who had taken down the perpetrator and came dangerously close to lynching him. Investigations conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the accused’s gun can fire.

The accused contested the charges before Chief Magistrate Ann Mwangi, who granted him a Sh1 million bond without the option of cash bail.

The case will be heard on July 11, 2022
