Meshack Cheubei, a 23-year-old boda boda rider from Ziwa-Chelabal village in Uasin Gishu County, has surrendered to the Ziwa police station after murdering his longtime partner Hilda Jerop.
According to Chelabal village Elder Simeon Tarus, the suspect was enraged by his girlfriend’s decision to quit their relationship after her parents recommended her to focus on her college studies.
“The young man went to her girlfriend’s home where she met her mother who demanded an end to their relationship, Cheubei may have been angered by those words and immediately he went looking for a knife came back and after a brief conversation with Jerop at her home, he stubbed her by the neck, on the face and on both her right and left legs before disappearing,” Tarus said.
Cheubei is said to have had a young child with Jerop and was well known by her family.
“The Young man was not married to the 24-year-old lady and the family of Jerop appears not to have been supportive of that relationship and they wanted their daughter to get back to school and continue with her college studies, unfortunately for Meshack he had expectations of settling down with Jerop.” the Village elder said.
Jerop succumbed to her injuries while being taken to Ziwa District Hospital and her body has been moved to Racecourse Hospital Mortuary within Kapseret Sub County.
