Bodaboda Riders Detained Over Sexual Assault

16 bodaboda operators suspected to have had a hand in the brutal assault against a female driver in Nairobi’s Wangari Maathai road, formerly Forest Road, have been detained.

Milimani principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe said the prosecution has successfully convinced the court that there is need to detain the suspects to conclude investigation pending charging.

“The application by the prosecution is merited given the gravity of the case. However, 20 days are many and I therefore grand the police 15 days to detain the suspects at Gigiri police station.”Ruled the magistrate.

According the ruling, the DCI will continue detaining the 16 suspects for 15 days to complete investigations.

Prosecution had initially prayed for 20 days but the court ruled that 20 days are many considering the suspects were arrested on 4th March 2022.

Hon Shikwe further said that there is a probability by the end of the investigation or trial, some of the suspects will be acquitted.

The court noted that the matter at hand is of public interest.

The said suspects are expected to be charged on 24th March 2022 after completion of the investigation.
