Governor Ann Kananu has announced that boda boda riders in Nairobi would receive biometric number plates.
Following a meeting between City Hall and boda boda groups, the decision was made to implement a slew of new rigorous laws aimed at simplifying a sector plagued by crime, indiscipline, and accidents.
Governor Kananu announced the new development by saying that boda boda operators will have their bikes fitted with digital numbers, with each of Nairobi’s 17 sub-counties getting a separate color code for easy identification.
Ms. Kananu claims that scanning the unique plates will expose each rider’s name, ID number, and phone number.
Anti-counterfeit elements like holograms, watermarks, and laser markers will be included on the high-tech number plates, which will aid authorities in tracing information on motorbike owners, their regions of operation, and their eligibility in order to reduce crimes related to rogue riders.
