Bomet: Boy’s Body Retrieved After Drowning While Saving Slippers

The body of a 12-year-old boy who drowned two days ago in the Kapsigirio area of Bomet county’s Amalo river has been retrieved.

According to Bomet county disaster management officer Stanley Mutai, the deceased was crossing the water stream with three others when one of his slippers flipped off his foot, prompting him to chase for a few meters before being submerged and carried away.

The other two children he was with looked on in disbelief as the terrifying scene unfolded before raising the alarm, attracting some herders who rushed to the scene, but it was too late.

Chemaner area location chief David Kebenei said that before the county disaster team took over, residents conducted a search and were able to trace the body almost a kilometer from the scene of the incident.

Mr.Kebenei expressed concern about several drowning incidents involving children who died in similar circumstances.

The body was taken to Longisa hospital mortuary.
