Bomet County Promises Tough Action In Longisa Hospital After Child’s Death

Bomet County health officials have pledged to take decisive action following the heartbreaking death of young Diana Chepngeno, a child who succumbed to injuries sustained from a bee sting after reportedly receiving inadequate care at Longisa County Referral Hospital.

The incident, which gained widespread attention after a viral video surfaced, highlights serious concerns regarding the hospital’s emergency response and care protocols.

According to family members, the hospital demanded 5,000 shillings for ambulance fuel, in addition to an 8,000 shilling referral fee to transfer Diana to Tenwek Mission Hospital for specialized treatment.

Tragically, while her sibling was transported for care, Diana did not receive the prompt attention she desperately needed, leading to her untimely passing.

In response to the incident, the Department of Health Services expressed profound regret over the loss of young Diana and extended heartfelt condolences to her family during this challenging time.

A team led by CEC Member Hon. Dr. Joseph Sitonik and Chief Officer Mr. Felix Lang’at, along with the County Assembly Health Committee, convened to evaluate the circumstances surrounding Diana’s death.

They conducted a thorough assessment of the hospital’s operations to identify gaps in quality of care.

Authorities are committed to holding accountable the healthcare workers on duty during the incident, stating that those found negligent will face disciplinary actions, potentially including legal repercussions.

Moving forward, Longisa County Referral Hospital is set to implement essential reforms, focusing on enhancing emergency response protocols and improving patient care standards to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of Diana, officials emphasize their dedication to ensuring that no family faces such a devastating experience again.
