Bomet: Man, 22, Throws His Father Into 20-Feet Deep Pit

A 60-year-old man is being treated at the Longisa county referral hospital after his 22-year-old son threw him into a 20-feet-deep pit during a land dispute in Emitiot village, Bomet county.

The victim, Samuel Tanui, spent two days in the pit without being noticed before making a loud noise after hearing voices of people crossing metres from the pit, attracting them to his rescue on the third day.

Neighbors rallied, and the elderly man was rescued and taken to the hospital with bruises on his back.

The suspect, Charles kiplangat Rotich, was arrested after returning home late at night, believing his father had died, according to Emitiot sub-location assistant chief Leny Ngeno.

Longisa police officers pounced on him as soon as he stepped into the compound, and he is currently being held at the Longisa police station.

“We are happy that it didn’t rain during the period the old man was inside the pit. The story could have been different, it’s not easy for a man of his age to spend two nights in a cold place considering he also starved for that period,” the chief said.

He is said to have committed the act after his father refused to allow him to sell a piece of family land.
