Boniface Mwangi Denies Possession of Teargas and Bullet

Activist Boniface Mwangi has denied allegations linking him to terrorism-related activities following his dramatic arrest on Saturday.

Mwangi is accused by police of facilitating acts of terror during the June 25th anti-government protests, a claim he has firmly rejected.

According to authorities, a search at Mwangi’s Nairobi office and Machakos residence led to the recovery of electronic devices, notebooks, checkbooks, two unused tear gas canisters, and a blank round.

Mwangi, however, denies possession or knowledge of any ammunition, stating the items were not in his custody.

The vocal government critic spent a second night at Pangani Police Station as rights groups, lawyers, and supporters gathered to demand his release. Only family members were granted access on Sunday morning.

A growing chorus of human rights organizations has condemned the arrest, accusing the state of using anti-terror laws to silence dissent. “Kenya is following the footsteps of authoritarian regimes,” one activist declared, warning of further arrests targeting protesters and civil society leaders.

Mwangi is set to appear in court on Monday to face charges of facilitating terrorist acts and unlawful possession of ammunition. The case has ignited national debate on civil liberties and the limits of state power.
