Boost for Harambee Stars as CAF increases Kasarani capacity to 80 per cent for CHAN clash against Madagascar

Football fans will turn up in bigger numbers at Kasarani Stadium on Friday evening after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) approved an 80 percent capacity for the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinal clash between Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Madagascar.

The decision means 38,400 fans will be allowed into the stadium, a major increase compared to the 27,000 who watched Kenya’s thrilling victory over Zambia last Sunday.

The move follows an appeal by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to CAF to review the crowd limit, citing high demand from supporters eager to cheer the national team in the knockout stage.

Friday’s game will mark Harambee Stars’ first appearance in the CHAN quarterfinals on home soil, and the approval is expected to create an electrifying atmosphere at the iconic venue.

FKF officials welcomed the development, saying it would give the players a morale boost as they chase a historic semi-final spot.

Security and crowd management measures are already being put in place to ensure smooth entry and safety for fans.

Ticket sales are also expected to surge following the announcement, with organizers urging supporters to purchase tickets early to avoid last-minute rushes.

Kenya head coach and players have repeatedly emphasized the importance of fan support, noting that the loud backing against Zambia pushed them to deliver a spirited performance.

With an additional 11,400 fans now cleared to attend, the team will be banking on the famous “12th man” effect to get past a resilient Madagascar side.

The quarterfinal is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., with anticipation building across the country as Harambee Stars continue their dream run in the continental tournament.
