A one-month-old baby boy has died in Tanzania after being snatched from his mother by a monkey in Mwamgongo village in Kigoma, near Gombe National Park.

According to reports, the child was being breastfed by his mother when a troop of monkeys invaded their home, finding their way into the house.

During the incident, one of the monkeys is said to have grabbed the baby.

Villagers attempted to rescue the child by using force, according to regional commander James Manyama.

According to the Tanzanian newspaper The Citizen, the animal then lunged at the child, killing him.

She screamed for help, and villagers rushed to her house to assist her in rescuing her child from the monkeys,’ Mr Manyama said.

‘He was injured in the head and neck when they tried to take him back by force.’

Police urged citizens to stay on the lookout for the dangerous animals.
