A 27-year-old bride was tragically shot dead on her wedding day in the picturesque village of Goult, near Avignon, in a violent ambush that has stunned France.
The couple was reportedly leaving their wedding celebration on Sunday night, accompanied by a 13-year-old child, when their vehicle came under heavy gunfire from hooded assailants believed to be part of an organized gang.
According to Le Figaro, the bride died on the scene while her groom, his sister, and the teenager were injured. One of the attackers was also killed — struck by the couple’s car as they tried to flee the gunmen.
French prosecutors have launched an investigation into “murder and attempted murder by an organised gang”, indicating suspicions of a planned hit rather than a random act of violence.
Goult’s mayor, Didier Perello, expressed disbelief and outrage: “I’m angry, revolted, in shock. This was a targeted, brutal attack in the heart of our community.”
Police have yet to publicly identify the suspects or reveal a motive behind the ambush, though investigators believe it may be linked to organized criminal networks.
The quiet village, known for its charm and rustic weddings, has been left reeling from the horror. Residents gathered in somber silence near the wedding venue on Monday morning, laying flowers at the scene of the tragedy.
France’s Interior Ministry has condemned the act as “a heinous display of gang violence” and vowed to bring all those responsible to justice.\
