Bungei Recalled as National Police Service Undergoes Major Leadership Overhaul

Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei has been recalled to police headquarters and appointed as the new Director of Operations, marking a strategic shift in leadership.

His role will be filled by Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah, who is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the Nairobi command, a region grappling with various security concerns.

The recent changes also saw Dr. Resila Onyango, who has been the NPS spokesperson since November 2022, transferred to lead the Diplomatic Police Unit as Commandant. Following her move, Michael Nyaga Muchiri has taken up the mantle as the new police spokesperson, succeeding Onyango amid a backdrop of increasing public demand for transparency and accountability within the service.

Additional notable appointments include Kwale County Police Commander Ali Nuno stepping up as the Coast Regional Police Commander. Meanwhile, Amos Omuga will continue his role at the NPS headquarters as the head of legal services at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

These leadership shifts extend to key departments, with Dr. Mwangi Wanderi transitioning from heading the National Forensics Laboratory at DCI to becoming the Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House. Michael Sang has also been appointed as the regional head of the DCI for the Eastern region, signaling a more robust approach towards crime investigation and enforcement.

As part of these adjustments, Judy Jebet takes over the community policing sector, which is seen as vital in fostering better relations between the police and the public.

This overhaul reflects the NPS’s commitment to improving national security and delivering effective policing solutions as the nation navigates through its unique security dynamics.
