Bungoma Governor Lusaka Justifies Ksh25 Million Beautification Project for Madaraka Day

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has confirmed the allocation of Ksh 25 million for beautification projects in preparation for the Madaraka Day celebrations.

Responding to a petition from Bungoma youth seeking clarity on the county’s spending, Governor Lusaka revealed that the total expenditure for the celebrations amounted to Ksh 148 million.

The June 1, 2024, Madaraka Day celebrations were held at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi. Governor Lusaka explained that the beautification budget, which included Ksh 25 million for flower planting, was part of a broader initiative to enhance the county’s urban appeal.

The flowers were planted along the Musikoma-Kanduyi road, where the stadium is located.

Additionally, the county allocated Ksh 18 million for billboards and signage. The education and vocational department received Ksh1 million from the budget, while roads and civil works in preparation for the event were allocated Ksh 24.8 million.

Other notable expenditures included Ksh 5 million for preparing the county handbook and Ksh15.5 million for advertising and publicity, with Ksh1.5 million directed to digital advertising.

Media mobilisation received Ksh 8 million, with the remainder spent on printing flyers and flags.

The completion of Phase 1 of Masinde Muliro Stadium, to ensure readiness for the celebrations, cost the county Ksh 60 million.
