The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Western Region, alongside the Axle Load Highway Unit, took the opportunity to educate the public on axle load regulations during the Bungoma Law Courts Open Day Forum held at Posta Grounds.
The forum, aimed at fostering public engagement with the justice system, saw KeNHA representatives share crucial information with attendees on proper axle load limits for vehicles.
The event boasted a distinguished guest list, including Kanduyi Member of Parliament John Makali and the presiding judge of Bungoma Law Courts, Lady Justice Ougo.
Representatives from Kenya Prisons Bungoma, the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Bungoma also participated in the forum.
KeNHA’s participation in the Open Day reflects the Authority’s commitment to not only maintaining the country’s road network but also fostering public awareness about responsible road usage.
By educating the public on axle load regulations, KeNHA empowers drivers and stakeholders to play their part in safeguarding Kenya’s roads for years to come.
KeNHA partners with the judiciary to help enforce the East African Community Vehicle Load Control Act of 2016. This act plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety and protecting vital infrastructure.
The heart of the act lies in the Second and Third Schedules, which spell out the legal load limits for a vehicle’s axles. Think of these limits as weight restrictions for each axle, single axle, or group of axles on a vehicle. Exceeding these limits is considered an “overload,” and the vehicle itself becomes an “overloaded vehicle” – subject to penalties and potential safety risks.
