Following a thrilling finals in which Bunyala North Zone defeated Bunyala South Zone by a goal to zero, the BunyalaNorth Zone women’s football team won the Isambo Women’s Football Cup for Season 9.

Four teams competed in the Cup Finals, under the patronage of CS Ababu Namwamba, for the honor of being named the Football Queens of the yearly Isambo Cultural Festivals and the top prize of KES 30,000. The 1st Runners Up received KES 20,000.

The competitions that took place in the Mudembi Playing Grounds in Budalangi, Busia County, are an important venue for identifying prospective talent and developing it. Due to the organizers’ desire to support emerging talent, the Cup Finals were restricted to under-19s.

The CS assured the residents of the government’s support to help spot and nurture talents in a bid to grow the women football in Kenya.

“The government is ready and committed to support such raw talents, to help them in their journey to stardom,” he said.

“Our women footballers have in the past shown their ability to compete with the best in Africa and the world. As such, my ministry will work hand in gloves with all sports stakeholders to ensure that these raw talents are supported to realise their full potential,” Namwamba added.

Namwamba said that the government had initiated a grand plan to identify and nurture talents in both the sports and the creatives through a bottom-up model. This, he says, is the surest way of spotting the next big talents to fly Kenya’s flag in the international stage.
