A 60-seater passenger bus traveling along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway burst into flames early Thursday morning, causing significant traffic disruption in the Mtito Andei area.
Passengers on board scrambled for safety as the fire rapidly spread through the vehicle. Preliminary investigations suggest that a technical failure might have triggered the blaze.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, with firefighters battling the flames that engulfed the Public Service Vehicle (PSV).
Videos showed thick smoke billowing from the bus as the firefighting efforts intensified.
Though it took some time, the firefighters eventually managed to extinguish the fire, after which the bus was towed away.
The stranded passengers were reassigned to other buses and continued their journeys without further incident.
This is not an isolated case; incidents of PSVs bursting into flames have become increasingly common across the country.
In a similar incident earlier this year, a bus traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa caught fire, though passengers were safely evacuated.
The bus company involved expressed regret over the incident, pledging to prevent future occurrences.
They thanked the swift response teams that ensured the safety of all passengers.
