Busia: Feud Over Meat at a Funeral Leaves Two Brothers Dead

Two brothers died after an argument over how to divide meat during their relative’s funeral in Papaa village, Teso North.

James Ocharo allegedly killed his younger brother, Gracio Ogulo, during a fight over who would eat the liver of a cow slaughtered for the event.

It is claimed that Ocharo stabbed Ogulo and then fled the scene.

Enraged residents launched a search operation, scouring a nearby sugarcane plantation for the perpetrator. Their efforts culminated on Monday night, when they seized Mr. Ocharo and administered mob justice, resulting in his death.

Busia County Police Commander Ahmed Abdille condemned the vigilante action, emphasizing that the community should have reported the incident to authorities.

“It was wrong for the community to lynch the suspect. They should have reported the matter to the police for appropriate action. We are investigating the matter and hope to arrest those involved in the killing,” said Mr Abdille.
