Grief has engulfed Kisoko village in Busia’s Nambale sub-county after a 25-year-old man stabbed his 96-year-old grandmother to death with a knife.
The suspect, Bernard Okwara, a teacher at Samia’s Nanderema secondary school, attacked and killed his grandmother, Clare Oruko, who was in her kitchen, according to the deceased’s family, led by Florence Nabwire.
After the incident, neighbours and family members surrounded the suspect and tied him to a tree before calling the police.
According to his family, the suspect has been receiving mental health treatment at a hospital in Kakamega.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to the Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
Meanwhile, the suspect is being held at Nambale police station pending an investigation into the incident.
