Busia Women Rep Catherine Omanyo Empowers Communities with Sh6 Million Support Drive

Written by Joyce Nzomo

Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo, through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), has rolled out Sh6 million worth of support to local groups under the Wezesha Mama program at Emukhuyu Primary School in Nambale.

Sixteen women and youth groups were each awarded grants of Sh100,000. Additionally, 50 individuals received sewing machines to support income generating activities, and more than 310 water tanks have been distributed to various schools in the region.

Omanyo emphasized that the lack of water in many schools forces students to spend valuable learning time searching for it something she is determined to change.

“We want our teachers and learners to concentrate fully in class to improve performance. While we may not have piped water in every school, water tanks allow for effective storage. Since I was elected, I’ve distributed over 310 tanks to institutions,” she said.

She also highlighted her support for women in small-scale businesses, noting that more than 4,000 have benefited from the distribution of umbrellas to help shield them from harsh weather conditions as they work.
