A daring heist along Mombasa Road has left a businessman devastated after a gang trailed him from a bank and made off with Ksh1.7 million.

The meticulously planned robbery occurred on August 1, with the thieves executing the crime with chilling precision.

The businessman, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing experience to the police.

After withdrawing the substantial sum from a bank along Mombasa Road, he drove to his home in Syokimau, unaware that a gang was shadowing his every move.

The gang broke into his car and grabbed the cash from the boot where he had parked it at an apartment.

The audacious thieves had followed him for nearly five kilometers from the bank, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

They even managed to infiltrate the apartment premises, creating a diversion while their accomplices looted the car.

Security footage from the bank and the apartment complex has provided crucial details of the operation.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is pursuing promising leads, though the gang’s use of fake number plates and sophisticated tactics adds complexity to the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns over a growing trend of criminals targeting bank customers, prompting police to warn the public about the risks of carrying large sums of cash.
