Businessman Risks Jail-term After Issuing Bad Cheques

A businessman has been arraigned in court for writting out bad cheques, citing COVID-19 for lack of funds.

Kiran Ramji Mulji, a businessman appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi and charged with various offences of issuing forged cheques on diverse dates.

Mr. Mulji is alleged to have issued cheques totaling Sh. 2,603,005 to Leo investments limited on diverse dates between 10th October 2015 and 23rd March 2020 knowing that he had insufficient funds in his bank account.

The respondent’s counsel pleaded with the Court to release him on reasonable bail terms stating that the accused is an aged man, a family man, a businessman and that his business was adversely affected by covid 19. 

He was released with a bond of Sh. 1m with an alternative cash bail of sh. 300,000
