Nairobi, Kenya – The countdown to the November 27 by-elections entered a critical phase as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially took possession of the first consignment of essential voting materials in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon personally oversaw the arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), confirming that an initial batch of 10 pallets containing ballot papers and crucial statutory forms had successfully landed.

In a statement delivered to the press at the airport, Ethekon provided a clear timeline for the remaining logistics, noting that the Commission anticipates the delivery of the remaining 29 pallets later today at 7:30 pm. This will complete the entire shipment of materials required to conduct the polls.

With all materials in hand, the Commission is poised to initiate the next vital stage of the operation: the distribution of these materials to the various constituency tallying centres across the affected regions. This extensive logistical exercise is scheduled to commence on Friday, November 21, ensuring everything is in place ahead of polling day.

Chairperson Ethekon sought to assure the public and all stakeholders of the Commission’s readiness, stating, “The Commission has made all necessary preparations to ensure the by-elections run smoothly.” This declaration underscores the IEBC’s commitment to a transparent, efficient, and credible electoral process as the nation prepares to fill the vacant positions.
